‘Wear Masks Inside The Courtroom As Well’: Madras HC Acting CJ To Lawyers

Madras HC

Acting Chief Justice T Raja of the Madras High Court on Tuesday urged all lawyers to wear masks in light of the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Justice Raja revealed that some judges of the Court had also contracted the coronavirus and said that all lawyers must wear masks inside court rooms when they were not arguing their cases.

“Additionally, three four judges tested positive for COVID-19. Wear masks inside the courtroom otherwise; you may take them off when arguing,” he stated during a hearing.

The option of hybrid hearings had been made available to everyone with the express intent of reducing footfall in the Court, so he questioned why so many lawyers insisted on physically attending court and crowding the courtrooms.
