Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Monday has issued a summons on Monday to a key witness and victim involved in the women’s wrestlers’ protest at Jantar Mantar in January 2023.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia scheduled the examination for November 14. This witness is also one of the complainants in the case.
The court noted that the witness, previously summoned, did not appear due to her participation in a wrestling championship abroad for two months. Defense counsel Rajiv Mohan argued against summoning her, stating she is the author of the FIR. However, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Atul Srivastava, representing the Delhi police, maintained that it is the prosecution’s responsibility to present the witness.
Two victims have recently appointed new legal representation, with a newly engaged advocate filing his vakalatnama in court. On October 19, the Delhi police dropped witness coach Jagbeer Singh from the case.
In a related development, the court granted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh permission to renew his passport for a year.
The accused had submitted an application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to obtain a new passport, having previously held a diplomatic passport as a Member of Parliament.
