Joshimath Tragedy: CJI Led Three Judge Bench to Hear Shankaracharya’s Petition Today

The Joshimath tragedy case will be heard by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court  DY Chandrachud, Today. The other two judges in the bench are, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice J.B. Pardiwala. Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court regarding the landslide issue in Joshimath, Uttarakhand.

Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, in his petition, has demanded that the Center and the NDMA to cooperate with the state government in relief work to help the local people who are facing the crisis of life and property. It was also demanded in the petition that the state government should provide immediate financial assistance to the people who lost their homes due to landslides. Local administration should evacuate people to safer places, the plea said

The petitioner has demande that all the ongoing construction works under the Tapovan Vishnugarh hydropower project should be stopped. These restrictions will continue till the court-appointed committee approves it. Along with this, Center and State Government should take effective steps to preserve the religious, spiritual and cultural places of Hindus/Sikhs in Jyotirmath and surrounding areas.
