Approx 60 Lakhs Cases Pending In Indian Courts

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju stated on Thursday that over 69,000 cases are pending in the Supreme Court, while over 59 lakh cases are pending in the country’s 25 High Courts.

He said in a written response on Thursday, citing information from the Supreme Court’s website, that 69,511 cases were pending in the court as of February 1.

Rijiju stated in Rajya Sabha, “According to the information available on the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) on February 1, 2023, there are 59,87,477 cases pending in the high courts across the country.”

Out of these, 10.30 lakh cases were pending in the Allahabad High Court, the country’s largest High Court.

The Sikkim High Court has the least number of cases that is 171 cases.

Rijiju stated that the government has taken several initiatives to create a “suitable environment” for expeditious disposal of cases by the Judiciary.
