The Supreme Court on Monday declines to entertain a plea filed by Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda on the issue of land subsidence in Joshimath. The Supreme Court notes that Uttarakhand High court is already seized of the matter. The Top Court asked the petitioners to approach the uttrakhand high court at first instance. “We don’t want anyone to use these proceedings only for sound bytes for socialmedia”, the bench said.

It was also demanded in the petition that the state government should provide immediate financial assistance to the people who lost their homes due to landslides. Local administration should evacuate people to safer places, the plea said
The petitioner has demande that all the ongoing construction works under the Tapovan Vishnugarh hydropower project should be stopped. These restrictions will continue till the court-appointed committee approves it.
