Revised Mentioning & Listing Procedure For Fresh Cases At SC From July 3

Supreme Court

The reopening of the Supreme Court after the summer vacation will bring changes in the process of listing and mentioning fresh cases before the Chief Justice of India.

From July 3, all newly verified Matters verified after Tuesday will be listed on the Friday of the subsequent week.

To have their cases heard the next day, counsel seeking a listing of verified fresh matters before the allotted dates must submit their mentioning proformas by 3 PM.

For a same-day listing, proformas and an urgency letter should be submitted by 10:30 AM to the mentioning officer.

During lunch hours or as the situation requires, the Chief Justice of India will make a decision on the urgency of such cases.

For urgently listed matters that require after-notice and regular hearings, counsel must approach the mentioning officer with the proforma and urgency letter.

The Registrar (Judicial Administration) of the Supreme Court will then notify the generated lists for mentioning before the appropriate benches after consulting with the CJI.
No mentioning other than those included in the mentioning lists uploaded a day prior will be permitted for such matters.

Previously, mentioning proformas for all fresh matters or those without a designated new bench had to be submitted by 10:25 AM. The Chief Justice of India would hear the mentioning from 10:30 AM onward and allocate dates. This practice sometimes resulted in over 300 items being mentioned on certain days. Matters that had received notice or were partially heard would be mentioned before the respective benches.
